Maryn

Pronunciation: n/a

Origin of the name Marin:

German variant of Maria, the Latin form of Mary, which is derived from the Hebrew Miryām (sea of bitterness, sea of sorrow). There is much debate over the meaning of the name, however. While "sea of bitterness or sorrow" seems to be the most probable, some sources give the alternative definitions of "rebellion," "wished-for child," and "mistress or lady of the sea."

Personal experiences with the name Maryn: | Edit

With my first child, I felt obligated to honor certain family members, but I wanted a name that I loved and chose by myself. I took my child's formal name of Mary Cathryn and "smushed" it together to create Maryn. Though this would be considered a "nickname", my child is known as Maryn. All school records use Maryn. My child also has expressed the desire to legally change her name to Maryn on her birth certificate. Quite unique and never any confusion with peers because there has never been anyone else with this name, until this year. Kindergartener has the same name, but it is spelled Marin.

My cousin's name is Maryn (born in 1968) - though I'm not sure where my aunt got the idea for this name.
