Meanings and history of the name Naoise: | Edit

Naoise was a hunter, singer, and warrior in Irish myths. He was the nephew of King Conchobar mac Nessa of Ulster. Naoise married Deirdre, who when she was young, was prophisized to grow up to be very beautiful, and that kings and lords would go to war over her. And when Deirdre grew up, she was the most beautiful of all. The king had raised her in seclusion so when she grew up, she'd marry him; however, she met Naoise and eloped. The king tried killing Naoise, so he and Deirdre fled, but everwhere they went, as was prophisized, went to war over her and tried killing Naoise. Eventually, the king suceeded in killing Naoise. Afterwords the king forced Deirdre to marry him. (Deirdre ended up killing herself by sticking her head out of her chariot and smashing her head on a rock, though later variations of the myth say she died of sorrow.)
