Pansy is a flower name like Rose or Lily. The name comes from the French word "pensée", meaning "thought", which is also its meaning in the language of flowers. In Shakespeare's play "Hamlet", Ophelia gives flowers to Hamlet and says, "There's pansies; that's for thoughts." The pansy is a symbol of the Kappa Alpha Theta social sorority, and of the city of Osaka, Japan.

Lady Pansy Lamb (born Margaret Pansy Felicia Pakenham), writer and translator, daughter of the Earl of Longford and wife of Sir Henry Lamb. She was one of the four famous Pakenham sisters: Mary, Pansy, Violet, and Julia. They were central figures in the circle of Bright Young Things of the 1920s.
