Yoshiko is a very common Japanese female name. It was very well used through most of the 20th century, but like most of the names ending in the traditional -ko (meaning child), it fell out of fashion by the 1980's and is now quite rare for little girls in Japan. It's considered quite old-fashioned/dated in Japan nowadays. It is pronounced with a light accent on the first syllable: YOH-she-ko (almost YOH-shko), NOT yo-SHEE-ko.

In the 1920's it figured briefly on the US Top 1000 names list (along with the male version, Yoshio), due to Japanese-American immigrants using the name. Yoshiko and Yoshio were among the most popular Japanese names for that generation.

Yoshi's is a historic jazz club in Oakland, California.
