Dh's favorite before we chose Maverick was Jedidiah. And I pushed for Tova. Cora and Ivan are family names.
So yeah, I'd say you're right!
I think that may be a little deep, but I see what you're saying.
Most of the responses I get about Maverick's name are in reference to the Mel Gibson and Tom Cruise movies. I usually explain the original meaning of "unconventional rebel".
Eden means delight or fruitful; in my church circles it's more a picture of paradise than of disobedience. Does Eve or Adam reflect a negative connotation?
Eclectic is the nice word for it! Our names are all over the place. Does it help to say Stephen, Forrest, Heidi and Lavender are family names or derivatives of family names? And that I love "modern" Biblical names (Jasper= a stone in the walls of heaven)? Dh has a country/western flair. That pretty much accounts for most of the kids' names, almost, lol.
I will mess around with the matchmaker tool. Though the positives about Eden here are encouraging my love for the name.
Funny that Aurora showed up; we live in Alaska. :)
Lots of great names in your lists. Thank you, I'll take some time trying some out.
I will have to see if Dh will go for Annaliese! I love Liesl, but he nixed it long ago.
I'm really leaning toward Eden. And Dh likes Rebecca. Eden Rebecca maybe?
You're the 2nd person to suggest Nina. So very close to Nine, lol!
And I've never heard Oaklen before. Thanks!
I'm finding Jillian to be moving farther down my list.
Thanks for your suggestions, I've read them to Dh a few times!
I have only run into the Amityville Horror thing from a handful of people in my life. And it came out the year after I was born.
I like my name and have only met one other Amity in my life. She's 7.
We considered Mercy and Verity for our daughters, but ended up using only one virtue name, Faith. Valor and True were in the running for boys, but Hubby couldn't be convinced.
My name is Amity. I've only met one other in my life. I think it would be a great alternative to the Emily and Aubrey group.
and I love Abel. It's my son Maverick's middle name.
Named our son born on July 4th Maverick Abel. Our last name begins with a C, so his nicknames are Mac and Mav. We've gotten several compliments on his name; it's just been the "Ethel and Herb" set that think it's odd.
Thanks for the help. We've finally decided: Maverick Abel. His initials will spell Mac, so that and Mav will serve as nicknames. We're pronouncing it with 2 syllables (I was surprised to find out many people add a 3rd).
I was afraid of that. It's Biblical meaning is a very positive one--payment to the victim from the accused, to cancel all wrongdoing. It has a root similar to "redemption". It's used in that sense in many songs and verses.
But that meaning is gone in today's language. I like it's strong sound, that's not too formal or angular.
It may make it as a middle name...
Thank you for the great suggestions!
dh has latched onto Trevor. I find it okay, but not a favorite.
I like Jonah Wesley since dh nixed Abel.
BUT, DH has cracked open the door for one of my favorites for a long time:
Ransom. Any opinions on this unusual name?
As an Amity, I'm surprised. I've only met one other Amity in my life. Will be interesting to see where this goes..
