Regarding Cabbage Patch Kids, my grandmother collected several of them when us grandkids were little. They were recently distributed among the female members of the family. I remember not liking their given names when I played with them as a child. The one I ended up with, "born" in 1985, is named Nelly Alison. Some of the others were named Bingham (which I found especially odd), Ross Casey, and some kind of made-up name ending in -ina. Also, I have a son named Quinton, who we call Quinn. We liked Quinn better but gave him the full, clearly masculine name as back-up in case his name became more clearly female and he did not like that.

I also am a little disappointed to see the rise in Quinn for girls, although I'm not exactly surprised. Quinn was the front-runner for our son born last year but my younger sister thought we were crazy since she knew of 3 female Quinns on TV. I didn't watch any of those shows so it still sounds more masculine to me. I was worried it might change sides completely but we never found anything we liked as much so we named him Quinton, nn Quinn. That way he always has the more masculine version to fall back on if need be.
