Can someone please explain the appeal of Harper? Its charm eludes me completely. The word evokes "harpy" (shrewish woman) and "to harp" (complain). The sound is harsh, like an explosive cough or a pirate's chuckle "Har har har!" It's made even worse by a second, final rrrrr sound. What am I missing?

I have nothing good to say about the listed names, nor about the general "punctuation-challenged" trend ... I think these names reflect very badly on the parents, but the children are the ones who suffer.

When I read the initials VJ, I thought "video deejay." Not genitalia. And previous posters are correct in that her oft-used initials would be VB. Nothing there to stop you from using the name you love, in my opinion. I know a little three-year-old Vivian who goes by Viv. Her little brother is Wesley.

Congratulations, Empathy. My own Solomon is 19. Guest, Sarah is an ironclad choice, I believe. I have always and completely missed the charm "Megan" holds for so many people. MAY-gun sounds to me like beggin', eggin' ... the "MEE-gan" pronunciation is a little better, but is so much like meager ... Ironically, I think Meggie is cute. Maybe if I had a Megan in my life, my opinion of the name would change. But as it stands now, it is probably close to my least favorite name, possibly beat out by Ainsley.

Empathy, My favorite girl's name of yours is Rosemary Blythe! Lovely. The boy's name was more difficult, knowing that your last name begins with S. I also bet that Ambrose will eventually go to the girls' side if it hasn't already. That said, Willam Ambrose is my favorite of your choices. Dale was my grandmother's name, and is one of my daughter's middle names. She has three middle names, each of a very different style, so she has several options if she later decides that her first name doesn't fit. :)

I always hated my given first and middle names. At the time of my divorce, I changed everything - first, middle, and last. My last name, I changed to my maternal grandmother's maiden name, and my middle name also became a family name. My first name, however, was one of my very own choosing. I'm still so glad I did it! Unfortunately, my first name (chosen in 1994) is starting to become popular in the 2000's! Eek! My five-year-old daughter's best friend has my name! The first name I hated so much will probably come back into vogue within a generation.
