Hi everyone! Thank you for your ideas and advice! We finally decided on the name Danica Jane for our to-be-adopted daughter :) Danica is after my dad (Dan). Plus we like how it has the same meaning as her birth name (Star) and it sounds good with Lindy since they both have a d, n, and short i in them. Thanks again for your help!

Thank you to everyone for your ideas and input so far! Here is a little clarification:

- Lindy is baby #2s formal first name (after my Grandma Linda). Austen will be her middle name (after my husband). Lindy was a good compromise because it has that classic feel I prefer, yet the modern inventiveness my husband likes. It also is very versatile and will grow well with her. I’ve had people say Lindy Austen sounds like a doctor, author, and singer/songwrite.

- My husband and I have pretty different taste in names. If it was up to only him, our foster daughter would be Raya Jane. If it was up to only me, her name would be something like Rona or Margaret. We both like Cassidy, but that is her social worker’s name.

I hope this helps! Again, thank you for your ideas!

In Response to Baby name ... Snow?

I think Isla Snow is PRECIOUS! It sounds like “I love snow,” which I think is super sweet. You could always call her Snow if you use it as a middle name! Then she will have Isla as another option if she prefers a more common name when she is older. Congratulation!

As a kindergarten teacher, I urge you not to use this spelling! My little friends really struggle with name writing, and adding extra letters does not help. As unique and cute as it is, I understand your love for the name Spot. But I also see where it reminds you of a pet. I agree with other comments that Dot may be a good substitute. Or use Spot as a middle name and call her that! (I have an uncle named James, but everyone calls him by his middle name because it is more unique!) That way she could have more “professional” sounding first name to use as an adult, but you can use and call her the name you love. Just some ideas :) Congrats on your baby girl!

In Response to Middle Name For Sarah

Out of those options, I am partial to Shea becuase it has a different starting sound... And I like that it has a different number of syllables than your first name.

In Response to Hester: disaster?

I personally like Hester! I also like the novel and I am a fan of early American literature, so maybe I am biased. But I really don't think she will get teased for the association. However, just the other day an aquaintance of mine told me about naming his daughter Hester. He said her name was not a problem until she got into kindergarten and other children started call her Hester Chester. It seems trivial but it upset her so much she chose to legally change her name as a teenager. My solution would be to name her Hester and call her Essie if you really want to honor Esther without using it outright.

In Response to Thoughts on Croix

It's funny that you picture a Croix's father as being an "All-American guy firefighter" becuase that is exactly what my husband is :) I'm not a sculpter, but I am definitely the creative type. Thank you for your thoughts on this name!

No, it is pronounced like Troy but with a C rather than a T.

It's interesting to get a teen's perspective. Thank you :) Would kids your age make fun of somebody with this name?

I think Clara is a beautiful name! And it pairs really well with a Joanne/Julianne/Vivianne middle name. I think a C name is fine :) It could maybe even be a little nod to you family as a whole.

From what I've found, Nico is Italian. What do you and your wife think of Zarek, Kaysar, and Navid?

What do you think of using a first name that has Anne in it, and using Catherine as a middle name? My favorite would probably be Julianne Catherine :) I think you are off to a great start; congratulations on this beautiful blessing!

In Response to Difficult last name

Those are all great names, but do you like any 3 syllable names? I just think a longer first name pairs well with a short last name and vice versa. Our last name is 3 syllables, and I've found short names sound better to me. It's just a personal preferance though. I think I like Carter best out of those names :)

In Response to Rose?

I have to agree that Rose Robinson could be a character in a story! I think it sounds beautiful, sweet, and classy :)

I'm not completely against Charles. It's actually my grandfather's middle name! I'm just afraid that it is too "classic" of a name to go with Petersen. I'm afraid it will sound too generic...

In Response to Baby Boy name help

My favorite from the names you've picked is Harrison. I feel like it sounds best with Walter, and fits well with your other names. Quinton, Landon, and Gavin also come to mind :) Best of luck!

In Response to Thoughts on Hugh?

I really like Hugh Caspian! I like it better than Zachary or Hugo for sure! I do not care for Perigrine, yet I think Hugh needs a 3-syllable middle name. So, in my opinion, Hugh Caspian is the best. Your post is making me consider Hugh for myself ;)

You make a really good point; I'd hate to miss out on Huck completely. Thank you for your help!

I think you make a great point :) If we have a girl, we plan on naming her Lindy after my grandma Linda. Lindy Austen is actually pretty cute!

Out of those names Flynn is my favorite! I also like Emmett, Foster, Hank, Turner, Neil, and Thatcher I think :)
