In Response to Fear of Short Names?

It also seems to be happening on the girls' side. I'm part of an online naming board where lots of people dismiss Lucy, Sophie and Lily (for example) as mere nicknames and look for ways to lengthen them. Same for Nora and Anna. Although those names seem to be more accepted on their own in that community, there are also plenty of people who use Eleanor and Annabel/Anneliese/etc. as a way to get those as nicknames.

I love Agnes, Beatrice, Edith, Hazel, Ingrid, Josephine and Viola. The others aren't bad names; they just seem either insubstantial or dull to me for some reason.

Agnes may become trendy in certain (very hipsterish) circles, but I think it's safe otherwise. The general population isn't ready for it to make a comeback yet.

Beatrice, Edith and Ingrid seem reasonably safe for now as well. They're not really spiking on the charts.

Hazel and Josephine have the potential to become top 100 names in the next few years in my opinion, so if you're worried about trendiness I'd avoid these two. Especially Hazel, which has the long A sound that seems to be so popular at the moment.

I expect Viola to reappear at the top 1000 at some point due to Violet's popularity, but I don't think it'll be huge, at least not for a few years.
