I named my son Beniamino three years ago... We mostly get positive reviews - he usually goes by his nickname, "Ben". My husband is Italian, and I am not, so I was looking for a name that I could use that would have a nickname that was easy to pronounce and fit in, yet was unique and suave when he was older. I do have a problem at the Doctor's office with pronunciation - I can tell it's his turn to be called when I see the look of panic/confusion on the nurse's face as she tries to say his name in front of a room full of people... We have had misspelling issues with our insurance company as well.. I actually had to send a copy of his birth certificate to the company because they didn't believe me that his name was not spelled, "Benjamino"... I really like the name, I like the meaning and I feel that the name will become more popular as our world becomes more global.. Where I live, there is a smaller Italian-American community, so maybe it wouldn't seem as unusual up North.. The main reason we used the name was to honor my husband's friend who once saved his life.. I have never met a Ben that wasn't kind, smart or heroic, all of the things I wish my son to be when he is grown-up!
