- Personal experiences with the name Eoin
We live in the USA, but our son Eoin is a dual citizen (his Daddy is from Northern Ireland). It was was initially for my American difficult for my family to adjust to the spelling and pronunciation of his name, but now after 19 months, it just fits him perfectly! We chose to go with the Irish spelling, rather than "Owen" to embrace his Irish heritage. :)

My brother is called Eoin and while people occasionally mispronounce it as Ian he has never had a problem with it (although this may be because we live in Northern Ireland where people are used to the even more extreme Eoghan). he has never been teased about it- it doesn't rhyme with anything and the only comments he's ever gotten about it were what a strong, nice name it was.I chose Eoin for my first son in a sleep-deprived haze as I was waiting to be induced. I love the look of it, although growing up in Aberdeenshire, it is routinely mispronounced Owen as in Eoin Jess the footballer. But I think over time, it's popularity will grow as there is now have an Irishman, Eoin Morgan in the England Cricket team.
