In the past 18th Centuary a Godfrey was a nick name of a lady who went and chopped men's penises off for a job. They were paid lots of money for this. It was a "nurse" job and those who had infections got it amputated. This was usually done with a blunt, unsterilised knife and usually caused more pain and infection but this was not recognised until the early 19th centuary.
