Parents, think twice before naming your SON Kit. Kit is my real name (although it can be a nickname for Christopher) and growing up with what is seen as a girls name was difficult, especially in middle school where the other kids were vicious.
However, once I hit my 20's the specter of Kit being a "girl's name" faded and I started getting complements on my name; "wow, what a great name for a stunt man or a western movie star", was one of my favorites. Frontiersman Kit Carson's real first name was Christopher.
If you want to name your son Christopher and use the nickname of Kit that would be ok I think.
I am now 56 years old and I love my name, it is unique and after extensively searching the internet I am pretty comfortable saying that I am the only person in the United States with my combination of names, so Kit is a fairly unique name for a boy/man.
