My son is named Kiyan and it's a very beautiful and uncommon name. We live in the Middle East and are constantly having to correct people's pronunciation of it (they say kay-ANN which is how it's said in the local dialect of the country we live in), but the proper Arabic pronunciation is key-ANN which is what we wanted to name him; it also sounds more masculine to me that way. My family is American, it was a challenge to find an Arabic name that they could pronounce, they haven't all quite gotten it (tend to say KEY-ann) but it's manageable. English speakers who aren't familiar with the name do have to ask a few times how to pronounce it, and usually they don't get it (lots of people in the US have called him Ken, others the Irish name Kian). But I love the name and don't at all regret choosing such a unique and meaningful name for my unique and amazing son :) In Arabic, the word kiyan can also have an almost spiritual connotation to it, meaning something akin to soul or essence.
