- Personal experiences with the name Lochlan
I heard the name on an online forum, as well as an Irish Baby Name website. It was different and went along with the Irish names that our whole family had. I love it, although it definitely intimidates people when they first hear or see it. Surprisingly, they are unsure how to pronounce it.
My son is called Lochlan and we call him Lochie as his nickname. We initially spelt it Lachlan, which is how it is spelt in Australia where it is very popular, but in the UK people were confused and pronounced it Lackie. So we changed the spelling to Lochlan which is the anglicised version of the Scottish original, and that seems to have solved the problem. We still love the name as it is really relaxed in a surfy kind of way, but also sounds unique and with our surname is a good strong name.
My brother's name is Lochlan, but he perfers Lockie, he is annoying.
