My son's name is Pasquale, after my father-in-Law. My husband is also Pasquale, but he was named after my Mother-in-Law's Stepfather. It is a tradition of their Italian family, which is Calabrese (Those who derive from Calabria, The southern most region of the Italian mainland)to name the first son after the husband's father and the second son after the wife's father. It's supposed to be the same for girls-to be named after the mothers, but we opted to break tradition when we had our daughter, and named her Victoria. My son goes by the nickname PJ (for Pasquale James) or Squalie by most of the girls he knows because they think it's cute even into his teens. My husband goes by Pat, as did his Grandfather, and my Father-In-Law goes by Noggie or Pat. It is a unique name, especially in Arizona, which my son loves. But he is most proud, and honored to be named after the most wonderful, amazing man we know...his Grandfather.
