It isn't exactly the kind of name that's popular with modern babies, but Pwyll has an interesting mythological twist that makes him at least a little bit cool.
It is pronounced something like "pool", although any good Welshman should be able to give you a more interesting pronunciation. In Welsh the letter "w" usually sounds like "ooh".
There is also a crater with this name on Jupiter's moon Europa.
CORRECTION EDIT- This name actually means "caution". The word "pwll", without the y, means "pool" in Welsh. Its pronunciation is not the same as "pool". In Welsh, the letter "ll" is pronounced by placing the tongue at the roof of the mouth and blowing gently out of the sides of one's mouth. The first half of the word would be pronounced as "pouh". So "pwll" would be pronounced "pʊɬ".
Pwyll IS a mythological figure, featured in the Pedair Cainc Y Mabinogi (The Four Branches of the Mabinogi), being the hero of the first branch, Pwyll Pendefig Dyfed.

Pwyll is probably the most famous hero that exists in Welsh mythology. In the Mabinogi, he was both brawny and clever, defeating ancient enemies and chasing down the beautiful Rhiannon until she confessed to him she loved him. Unfortunately, she was promised to the irritating Gwawl, and she and Pwyll conspired together to trap him in a large bag so that he would leave them alone. Pwyll and Rhiannon had one son, Pryderi, who went on to become a great if rather stupid warrior.
