- Comments and insights on the name Australia
From the country Australia. A possible tribute to the song "Land Down Under" by Men At Work, or the country itself. Unique and pretty, if you get over the fact you'll be naming your child after a well known country that some people believe doesn't even exist. The biggest upside of this name is it's nicknames, something your child will have plenty of. They'll most likely even choose one of these nicknames, like, say, Lia, and refuse to be referred to by anything but.
Naming your baby Australia is like naming it America. Everyone immediately thinks of the country, gun violence and Donald Trump, except for with Australia people will think of the country, racism, dangerous fucking animals, surfers, Chris Hemsworth and Tony Abbott eating a raw onion.
Naming your child this gives them a 90% chance of changing their name.
- Personal experiences with the name Australia
Personally, I think it would be a pretty name if it weren't also the name of a country. My parents moved to England and decided to name me after my mothers home county - you guessed it! - Australia. Being raised in England, it was painful to say the least. I referred to myself as Lia, and later in life changed it to Natalia.
