My husband and I have decided to name our unborn daughter Bellatrix, much to the amazement and sometimes disgust of our family. We are both Harry Potter fans and we have spent a lot of time researching this name. Broken up, it's meaning is 'beautiful bringer of light' and we love all the nicknames that can come from it- Bella, Ella, and Trixie. Not everyone has been supportive, though so I would love to hear some opinions!

I think this is a FABULOUS name! If you like it, go for it. Besides, it so different and unusual without being "weird" or "made up" like so many other names these days.

I agree this is a great name, however, the Latin meaning is warrioress. It is also a constellation.

Such a beautiful name, I wish it didn't have such negative associations. :( I love Harry Potter, but the character is so evil...oh well, maybe it will be usable in a while.
