I named my daughter Brigitte. Both my aunt and my sister are Brigittes, however their names are pronounced the German way: Bri-GIT-te. My daughter's name is pronounced the French way. I had no idea how impossible it is to get an American to pronounce her name correctly. Most either call her Bridget or after they hear me pronounce it will still mispronounce it and say "Bri-JEET" - it should be "Bri-ZHEET"
It is very unique in the United States and she never meets other girls with her name. It was amazing for her, one day, when we met another (adult) Brigitte who was from Quebec, Canada. She always gets the comment of having a beautiful name, unfortunately it has to be said 2 or 3 times before people catch on to what we're saying.
Another great thing about her name is that nobody shortens into it or changes it into another name. Little kids, who sometimes cannot yet pronounce her name will just go with 'gitte and leave of the Bri part.
