- Meanings and history of the name Celisa
My mom came up with this name back in the 70's when her oldest brother bought a Toyota Celica car, she thought it was pronounced (sulisa) she really liked the name and when she named me she changed the second 'C' to an 'S' to look more phonetic. I talked to a gentle-man one time who studied names and their meanings, he seemed to believe that the Japanese used a lot of Puritan names for their stuff, so he was thinking that it may be an old puritan name. I have never been able to find out anything else about the definition of it or its origin.
How my name came about was I was named after an aunt that died in childhood, "Cecilia" who went by "Cilia". My father liked the name "Lisa", so the compromise "Celisa" was born out of that. The name means "Heavenly" if you look at the root of the name and similar names such as "Celeste". I had a "Celica" and thought it was funny that my name was so close to that.
