Every birth mum has a penchant for using a specific name for identification of the unique bundle she has just delivered to the world. My granddaughter wanted her firstborn, a girl, to have the name Dashielle. It didn't exist - well, not officially, at least - so she produced it herself. As she said, it's her prerogative to have a responsible, acceptable name for her child to carry through life. The name Dashiell (as in American author, Dashiell Hammett, for example) was out there but it looked too masculine, hence my granddaughter's modification to make it appear more feminine by adding the second 'e' on the end.
Fanciful? Perhaps. As I readily admit, it is her prerogative. The baby's father, my grandson-in-law? Huh! He's too busy smiling at the world to have said anything yet!
Incidentally, pronunciation-wise, it has three syllables. the "i" is pronounced, given a soft "e" intonation following the main accent on "Dash."
Has there been a precedent set? Only time - and forthcoming comments - will show.
