I like my name (pronounced Dee-nuh), but it is mispronounced and misspelled by most people (including my own grandmother once!) In fact, I find that I almost have to constantly correct the way others pronounce or spell it, often I just stop reminding them. However, it doesn't bother me much because I'm named after my father, Dean, and that is special to me. I like the rarity of my name and couldn't imagine what it would be like to hear it often (like the name Nicole, for example.) And when I do meet someone with my name, even if we don't cross paths more than once, it is like meeting another member of an exclusive club.

I get "Dee" a lot. I like it. My mother and her mother called me "Deana Peana" my whole life. Not a name I shared with most people, but it has become an endearing moniker. A boy in elementary school used to call me "Deana-weana" and I HATED that, but he was the only one who ever teased me with that name and looking back on it, I think he must have had a crush on me.
