Most Americanized Italians Pronounce this name Gio-Von-uh or Gia-von-uh
This is my grandmother's name, who immigrated from Sicily. When she came to the US, immigration officials changed it to "June", which was easier to pronounce. My daughter's name is Giovanna- my husband is Italian and we pronounce it "Joh-VAN -na" because the Gi in Italian is pronounced "J". When my daughter was two, she started calling herself "Gigi" and we think it's a wonderful nickname until she grows into her full name! She is a joy and we are so thankful to have her!
My name is Giovanna we pronounce it G-Oh-Va-Na. I prefer to be called by Gio, Gi, GG, etc.
