- Personal experiences with the name Isabel
I named my daughter Isabel because I thought it could be cute as Izzy or sophisticated -- a girl named Isabel could definitely be President!
Our Isabel is adopted from Guatemala. We wanted a name that was Hispanic in origin but also crosses over culture.
My name is Isabel, but I go by Izzi. It was a good name when I was little, but now I am changing it to something more sophisticated, like Bella or just Isabel. It's a good name because it an have so many nicknames.
When I picture an Isabel, I picture her to be blonde and blue-eyed.
My name is Isabel but my friends call me Izzie. I never really liked the name growing up because I always felt it was spelled wrong. I wished my parents named me added the 'le' to make it feel more complete as Isabelle or the 'a' to make it Isabella. But now I can appreciate the reasons my parents chose it for me and I feel it has really come to suit me and I love that it has so many nicknames. Also, I have brown hair and green eyes.
I had a lot of nicknames growing up. From Bel, to Sabs, to Izzy. Now I go by Isa (which means #1 in my language, so cool!) or complete Isabel. It's always bothered me that people too often pronounced it the white way EEzuhbel even though it's spelled the Hispanic way and should be pronounced isaBEL. I felt that the whitewashing took away from my identity, but it's hard (and annoying) to always have to correct people. It's also been so often misspelled as Isabela (my last name starts w A so you already know how this would happen on my email address) or Isabelle or Isabella. I was named after Salma Hayek's movie because my mom wanted me to be as pretty as her.
