Jenavieve Name Meaning & Origin
Jenavieve
Origin of the name Genevieve:
Derived from the Gaulish Genovefa, a name with Celtic roots but the meaning of which is uncertain. The first element is believed to be from genos (race, people, tribe); the second is possibly from an element meaning "woman." Its alteration in the translation from the Celtic to the French seems to be the cause of the confusion.

I named my daughter Jenavieve Arlene, after both of my grandmothers. I did not like the traditional spelling of Genevieve because of the shortened version of Gene, which I felt was not so pretty. I like that with the name Jenavieve, my daughter can be nicknamed Jena or Jenna if she chooses. I wanted to spell her name Jennavieve, but was out-voted by my husband & family. Everyone whom I have told her name to always says how beautiful and sophisticated it is. I liked it for it's old-fashioned quality. She is now 2 (in 2010)and her name fits her nicely.
