- Comments and insights on the name Jennie
Jennie is my real first name (Marie is my middle name). I was born in 1996. I've had people spell my name "Jenny," "Jenni," and "Ginny." Also I get called Jennifer by new or substitute teachers a lot. It's a bit irritating, but I like my name anyway because it's unusual. =)
- Personal experiences with the name Jennie
This is my full name. I was born in 1980. People always presume that my full name is Jennifer or misspell my name as 'Jenny'. I do prefer the spelling 'Jennie'. I love my name!! It is a lot more original than most people think.
I am very close to some one named Jennie and this person finds it to be a frustrating name. People always assume her full name must be Jennifer, or at least Jenny, and constantly spell it that way or call her Jennifer. When they do see it written as Jennie, they often pronounce it Jeannie. She says she finds her name to be unsuitable in professional situations and incompatible with being taken seriously (when seen on top of a resume, for example). She always goes by Jen.
My legal name is Jennie, and I go by that (no nickname). I was named for a Swedish great-grandmother. I agree with the above reviewers that it can be frustrating when it comes to other people, who often assume that my full name is Jennifer, or that it's spelled Jenny, or who pronounce it Jeannie when they read it quickly. However, I adore this name, and have only run into a few other people who share it. I have never found this name to be a barrier to being taken seriously (I went to Harvard, so that ought to count for something!), and in fact, I think it is a name that makes the bearer quite approachable and relatable. You really can't go wrong with naming your daughter Jennie -- and just remember that it's the original and best version! Take a look at its rank in the 1880s U.S. census if you don't believe me!

- Meanings and history of the name Jennie
My name is "Genoveva", a variable of Genevieve, but I was named thus so I could be called "Jennie" (Go figure why I wasn't called Jennie!) I love the name Jennie and thing it really suits my personality. I think Jennie is playful, original, creative, lots of fun. Like a spark that comes and goes, with subtle laughter. I really love it!
People are always mispelling my name (I live in Mexico) but I really don't care so much. What I really don't like is when people call me Jeannie, uggh! I definitely don't like my given name, Genoveva, since I think it sounds too strong!
I undertand that Jennie is a derivation of the name Genevieve from the French and Celtic, that it means "white wave", "white", "woman of the people", depending on the source. But I don't know and haven't found out yet what the meaning of "white wave" is.
Hope this helps.
