- Comments and insights on the name Katarina
Katarina is an absolutely beautiful, pleasantly uncommon name. I just adore it! If I ever have a daughter, I will name her Katarina and call her either Kat or Katya. Then I can say I named her after my mother (Katherine). :)
My husband and I have decided on this name for our baby. I am Russian and he is Czech-so Katarina Rose will be her name as it fits both Nationalities. I have a friend named Katya and she loves her name-she is in her 40's but she goes by "Kay" she said mainly because people find it easier to pronounce and her Russian spelling is impossible for Americans to decode.
*BEWARE* Some people insist on mispronouncing the name and saying Katrina. This makes me feel frustrated and angry when I correct them and still they say Katrina any way.
- Personal experiences with the name Katarina
Katarina (Käti) was the coolest preteen I've ever met.
I have known a lot of people by this name and most go by Katya but also Rina.
My name is Katarina. I love my name a lot. I have only met one other Katarina in my entire life, and most people have never heard my name, but still think its beautiful. I always get "what a pretty/neat/nice name!" when I introduce myself. Most of my close friends call me Kat, which I like, but my parents and siblings usually call me by my first name, or 'Katzi' or 'Katz' (but that's just my mom). Overall a beautiful name, and the meaning of pure is pretty neat as well. The only downside is the mispronunciation of 'Katrina'.
I was supposed to be named Katarina, but my parents thought it sounded too Russian, and we aren't Russian, so they changed it to Katrina. I don't think that's a good reason not to name your kid something. Plenty of names come from other cultures. I like Katarina better anyways.
I had always thought that Katarina was a very unique name, and it is. When I was living in the US, I never met another person with the same name. But once you go to other countries, mainly Germany, it becomes more common. It’s true the spellings may be different, but it seems like many Germans also love this name
