- Meanings and history of the name Katrinka
My given name is Kathleen but my parents were first generation Americans with my grandparents coming from Slovakia. (Both sides) Katrinka was a form of endearment of my name spoken when my parents were happy or proud of me. Katrinka in our home was pronounced with the roll of the tongue when you got to the "R". My father's "special" name for me was Trink, and since his passing, I've not invited to let anyone else use that name for me. I do know from my research that it is attributed to the Greek Language, which may explain why, when I visited the island nation of Cypruss, I felt a calming peacefulness while there. As a child I didn't like my name but now older, I cherish the richness of its heritage and playfulness of it off the tongue!
