Mariella Name Meaning & Origin
Mariella
Origin of the name Maria:
Latin form of Mary, which is derived from the Hebrew Miryām, a name of debated meaning. Many believe it to mean "sea of bitterness" or "sea of sorrow." However, some sources cite the alternative definitions of "rebellion," "wished-for child," and "mistress or lady of the sea." The name is borne in the Bible by the mother of Jesus, the son of God.

Simply beautiful! My husband adores this name - and he's a real romantic!
Worth noting that it also (rather obviously) provides a nice combination of Mary/Marie and Ella.
And It does a certainly sophistication and a trail of flowers in its wake.We have a relative in Italy named Mariella, and loved the name so much that we named our daughter Mariella. The relative told us we were crazy: that in Italy, Mariella is a nickname--short for "Maria" and she spent her entire school career correcting teachers who assumed her legal name was Maria and that Mariella was a nickname.
