- Personal experiences with the name Marisa
my name is marisa, pronounced ma-ree-sa. being shy i always had trouble with people pronouncing it- i got scared to correct them. but now that i am older i do not let people call me marissa mah-rih-sa anymore. i love my name, i think it is a strong name and the fact that people mispronounce it has helped me with my shyness a bit, because i would always have to correct the teacher and say, "no, ma-ree-sa, not ma-rih-sa" which was very scary for me. only people who don't know me have called me ma-rih-sa.
nicknames i have include reese, risa/reesa, marise, mars, but i mostly get "reese." most people just call me marisa though. My middle name is Marisa, pronounced mah-ri-sa (born in 1982).
pros: It is a pretty name that flows well with other names and last names. It is easy to spell and easy to pronounce.
cons: I can't think of any.I actually use "Marisa" as my internet name. I prefer it a lot more over my real name, which also begins with the first three letters.

Mariso- Meanings and history of the name Marisa
I wouldn't say this name is a modern elaboration. I have heard that Marisa / Marissa is essentially a combination of Maria and Luisa, but it could have its own meaning, depending on where you're getting your information. It was used relatively frequently in Italy in the early-mid 1900's.
