In the 50's there was a TV show called "The Life of Riley", in which Riley's next door neighbors were Gillis and his wife Honeybee. In one show it came out that Honeybee's real name was Olive. Riley exclaimed "Olive???" and Gillis said "That's why I call her Honeybee!"

This name is so pretty! It sounds nice, and I think of an Olive branch, or the colour olive green. A girl named Olive would be beautiful.

I used this name--for my daughter born in 2011. Grandparents thought it was weird at first; I'm glad we made the decision not to reveal the name until after baby was here. Several people have mistaken her name for Olivia.

I very much disagree with you. My name is Olive and I love it. Olivia is so overused, it fact I know 4 Oliva's. But I'm the only Olive I know. And Olive didn't become a name because of the plant olive or the character Olive Oyl. The NAME Olive is a symbol or peace and harmony. As a side note I must say I rather dislike the taste of olives either.

My eldest daughters name is Olive and, obviously biased I think it’s stunning. It’s much more sophisticated than the over used Olivia and being an old name carries such vintage charm. People always comment on what a beautiful name it is and there will never be more than one in the class at school. I never tire of saying it either.
