- Comments and insights on the name Teal
Teal is a low-saturation color, a bluish-green to dark medium, similar to medium blue-green and dark cyan. It can be created by mixing green with blue into a white base, or deepened as needed with a little bit of black or gray color. The complementary color of teal is coral.
It is also a name for certain types of duck, the Eurasian or Common Teal, from which the color gets its name.
The name can alternatively be spelled Tiel and Teale.
- Personal experiences with the name Teal
Gets frequent compliments!
It's rare that I don't receive a compliment on my name and I feel like that built my self confidence when introducing myself and building my individuality. As a small kid I did feel bummed by the lack of nicknames. Because the name Teal was unique enough and short enough to not warrant a nickname. The only teasing was from the clever teenage boys "hey Teal! What's your favorite color?" I do receive frequent questioning of the spelling or being misheard over the phone so from an early age my mom taught me to say "Teal - like the color". If people or teachers couldn't remember my name is be dubbed Turqouise or Aquamarine. I also had to deal with people having no clue what the color teal actually looked like. If I was wearing a Turqouise top when I'd meet someone they'd congratulate themselves for 'recognizing' that "hey! Just like the color of your shirt." At which you smile and nod and think negatively of people not knowing their colors. At least it was a conversation starter!
