"A" name needed for Ruby's little sister

I'm leaning toward Ada Cherise. Last name starts with an F, ends in N. Thoughts?

I also like Audrey. My husband likes Autum, which I also like, but the hippie-ness of two nature names concerns me slightly.

The first name must start with an A, or otherwise reflect the name Adam. We tend to like simple but feminine names. The middle name will almost certainly be Cherise, but Cecile/Cecilia aren't out of the running. Any suggestions?

I think Aria would go quite well with Ruby, as it is another word name of something lovely, but isn't matchy.  Flower names like Azalea could work too.  Autumn doesn't strike me as too similar to Ruby for sisters, and it seems like a good feminization of Adam. Adrian could work as well, though that can be a boy's or girl's name.  Amanda contains Adam.  Ann is nice.

I'm not a fan of Ada, but that is my personal opinion and shouldn't affect your choice. It does seem very close to Adam if an honor name is what you are going for.

Adam names that don't start with A: MADAline/MADAlyn (contains ADAM backwards). MArgariDA.

These are great ideas. I especially like the idea of Ada, both because I like the name, and because I think I would find it the most honoring if I were named Adam. (For extra bonus points you could do Ada M___ where any M name you please goes in the middle spot, but it sounds like you already have a plan for that.)

I love Ada for you.

Audrey is also very nice, though I think I prefer Ada so the endings are different.

I do know of a real life Ruby and Alice set.

Autumn is a fine name. I don't love it with Ruby.

I am not a fan of Cherise, but it sounds like it has personal meaning for you, so I'll leave it at that.

Yes, we want the middle name to honor my grandpa Cecil. I like the idea of keeping the name similar to Cecil, but Cherise is from one of our favorite songs. Our first daughter has a middle name derived the same way... D for Dorothy, Delilah from a song. So it would be nice to do the same for 2nd baby! Thanks for your insight.

Weatherly, I like all the names you mentioned but most of them are a bit fancier than I can imagine calling my kid. I love Madeline but I'm trying to stay away from very popular names. It's not the most important rule... I'm considering Ava. Amanda is't it either but those are good ways to incorporate Adam.

I love Ada- very cute and sophisticated. I also really love Audrey! Autumn I am not big on myself and especially if you have two nature names. Other ideas:

Allison (my name!)

I like what weatherly was saying in her last suggestion, though I much prefer Adeline to Madeleine/Madelyn. I do like the Ada names.

I suggest and/or second:

Ada (which can be a nickname for any of these names, as well as Addy)

A good friend of mine has an Adaline. I love Adelaide but my husband doesnt. :-(

I think Ada is a great name, and a good way to honor Adam. I'll also offer Audra as a suggestion. I do think Autumn doesn't quite fit with the other names you've mentioned, and also just isn't one I'm very fond of.

For a middle name, especially in honor of Cecil, I would go with Cecile. But that's down to personal preference. There's nothing wrong with Cherise and you'll have a great story to tell your kids about why you chose their middle names.

Congrats on your new little one!

I love Ada, but if you're still looking what about Aven?

October 28, 2015 12:16 AM

I'm still leaning toward Ada Cherise. It feels natural, like I can imagine myself screaming "Ada get that out of your mouth" :-) Thanks for the feedback!

I love Aven and Audra... I'll bring those to Hubby!

It sounds like you have your name picked!

If you want more suggestions for fun, I love Adair and Avalon, and Cecily or Cecilia would be my picks for the mn.

Thanks for letting us help!

I like Ada, and agree that it seems like a very nice tribute to Adam.

I also really like the way you're picking the middle names.  I love that you've found a way to incorporate multiple meaningful elements!  Of your current middle name choices, I lean more towards Cecilia but that's due mainly to my own love of the Simon & Garfunkel song.

Addison means "son of Adam"

Cecilia is the patron saint of music, which continues the theme somewhat.

Thanks so much for the opinions and suggestions. I love this website because everyone's so knowledgeable about the subject and honest in their feedback. It helps so much because I'm keeping the name a secret from people IRL, so it's hard to get honest opinions.

Still leaning toward Ada... Nothing else feels as natural at this point. Thanks for mostly liking it. Seems like people are less sure about Cherise so I'll keep thinking about that... But will probably go with it anyway unless there's something negative about it I haven't thought of yet.

How about Amanda it is Latin and it means worthy of love

Arya is good too - trending of of Game of thrones, but has a really nice sound and I think matches Ruby well.

Ada Cherise is absolutely beautiful - I don't think you need anything else. I too love Audrey, but with Ruby it feels a bit too  -ee. Autumn, though, I really do love with Ruby, so I think those should be your options, Ada or Autumn Cherise. Love them both!

I think you have it nailed - Ada Cherise - for all the reasons you listed! Ada for Adam and Cherise for the "C" and song.
