A Nymbler Name Game

Ok, I didn't make this up but I don't remember where it came from.

We are going to collectively name a sib set of 12 using Nymbler.

I'll start with a name, the next person types it in to Nymbler and chooses a sibling name from the suggestions.

The 3rd person has to type in the two previous names and choose a name from the suggestions.

Ready? Your starting name is...

Clay.

No need to defend Guest, that's what makes this fun! There are no wrong answers.

Angelica(g); Sergio(b); Carina(g); Gustavo(b); Raul(b); Francesca(g); and Marisol(g)

Oh, I'm wasn't feeling defensive - I know it's just for fun :).  When people make a choice I find puzzling, I like to hear their reasoning out of curiosity, so I figured I'd provide mine!

Ooh, interesting choice: I'll go with Jennifer (g) and Meredith (g)

61
April 19, 2012 4:45 PM

Nice ones!

Jennifer (g), Meredith (g), and Geoffrey (b)

(Taking it down a slightly medieval route?)

62
April 19, 2012 5:26 PM

I am totally confused by the suggestions given for those three... (LaShonda, Westly, and Geraldine? Really, Nymbler?)

Jennifer (g), Meredith (g), Geoffrey (b), and Cameron (b)

63
April 19, 2012 8:22 PM

Okay this is getting wild everywhere I look on these boards 70/80's names are popping up! I like the medevial spin someone said these are taking though. I'll try to spin as well.

Jennifer(g); Meredith(g); Geoffrey(b); Cameron(b); and Rhiannon(g)

This one was picked to keep the Welsh theme and also in honor of DH because its one of his RL favorites. He suggested Stephanie Rhiannon for our dd.

I think we've confused Nymbler.  How do Guiseppe, Winifred, Carrington, and Quasean fit in with our vaguely 70s/80s names?

Jennifer (g); Meredith (g); Geoffrey (b); Cameron (b); Rhiannon (g); and Bradley (b).

65
April 19, 2012 11:47 PM

Yep--we're confusing it! From those, I get suggestions from Giuseppe to Benjamin and Grace to Sunshine! LOL!

Jennifer (g); Meredith (g); Geoffrey (b); Cameron (b); Rhiannon (g); Bradley (b)

and

Gwendolyn (g)

I think Nymbler was having trouble with Jennifer, because I got some weird results even when that was the only name (of course, now I can't remember what they were). It's doing better now that we're past six names and Jennifer is out.

Jennifer (g); Meredith (g); Geoffrey (b); Cameron (b); Rhiannon (g); Bradley (b); Gwendolyn (g)

and

Cassandra (g)

(Yes, it's a lot of "G" names, but at least they are spaced out. And funnily enough, after all the trouble it caused, Nymbler is now suggesting... Jennifer)

Love this game! OK, as I ended the last thread, I'll start this time:

Fleur

I almost picked Florian (b), which is one of my big name crushes that I'll never actually use, but Fleur and Florian were just too close. Is it cheating to click "Find Names" multiple times if you don't like the first set of results?

74
April 23, 2012 4:47 PM

EVie-I totally click through to find a name that fits so I would say its ok ;) Who would do Fleur and Florian together??

Sharalyn's post above didn't post. For some reason she is on moderated status (I'll check into it). I took the liberty of reposting it here so we can continue with the game. So the updated list now stands at:

Fleur(g); Bastien(b); Emil(b) (pronounced Ay-meel); Leontine(g); and Alice(g)

Hmm, now I'm not sure I shouldn't have gone for Eloise instead. Are Clementine and Leontine too much? But Eloise and Louis are a bit too close in another way...

Still, "no wrong answers" is the motto for this game, isn't it? I absolutely love this growing family we are creating!

Nah, Clem and Leo sound like excellent sibling names :) Besides, once you have 12 kids, it's not unlikely that a couple will share endings.

Hey I was reading this thread; this game sounds like so much fun! Mind if I jump in?

Georgia (g); Adrianne (g);

and Kristopher (b)!!

The only name nymbler suggested for me that really didn't fit, imo, was Rusty.

Great job everyone! This is a great thread and lots of fun. I am trying to keep abreast of those that are moderated and whose messages are not posting in a timely fashion so that the game keeps going smoothly. If your message doesn't post and someone else jumps in, then I suggest waiting a few hours to check on things and by then it should be straightened out.

hyz-While I was thinking about things you jumped in with Lucas. I was going to pick Owen(b) so its now:

Georgia(g); Adrienne(g); Kristopher(b); Lucas(b); Owen(b)

Hyacinth (g) and Corydon (b)

This looks like a tough one for Nymbler—it was giving me lots and lots of very Greek names, but I don't think that's necessarily what someone who picks Hyacinth for a girl would be going for these days.

Oh my my! All of us eager namers are having so much fun that this game progresses rapidly. I wasn't on last night and things got a bit out of order. I have posted everyone's original comments because I didn't feel right editing each comment. So here's an adjustment of the new list:

Hyacinth(g); Corydon(b); Leopold(b); Jade(g)

Autumn(g); Flint(b); Sterling(b); Spencer(b)

Laurel(g); River(g)

Now, I have two questions: #1 Hera-did you mean for River to be a girl? I would think that is a boys name. River Phoenix is the first association for me. #2 to all-is it okay that I adjust the grouping to include names that didn't get posted in order? Or, should I post a message for that poster to choose another name? In this case I think the names still fit the group nicely but I don't want it to mess up anybody and cause the game not to be fun anymore.

Also, why is it that we always start with a girl name? Curious.

I think it's ok to post the original suggestion--no need to make it too complicated, I think.  I don't know how the moderating works, but it's too bad you have to approve all of these before they will post--that seems like a lot of work.

I started with a girl name because it's one I love and had on my mind--not sure what others' motivations were!

I'd agree it's ok to post all the originals - it doesn't matter if the set ends up with a few extra siblings!  (Once you've got 12 children, a couple more don't make much difference, right?!)

Thanks to Doctor Who and River Song, I now think of River as a girl's name first.  Hopefully it will stay possible for both, though.
