Baby Boy Due Soon

So my husband and I are still looking for a name and I am due in 12 days. My husband and I have different naming styles with mine being more open and him not liking a lot of names. I need help with two different things:

-First, we have three names that we really like and I wanted to see which one people like and reasons why we should pick one over the other. The names are Jack, Conan, and Charlie. Jack is a great name and I have alwasy liked it but I just cannot commit. I would despise if people call him "Jackie" and I do not know if it sounds the best with my last name. Conan is a great name but I think that people would continue to think of Conan the Barbarian or Conan O'Brien, when really I just like the name. Do you think it can push past the associations? Charlie is a good name but I am not a fan of Charles, so is Charlie too juevnile?

-Second, here are some other names that my husband likes and I wanted to know if there are any other options that you can think of that fit his "old-man/used car-salesman" style

Adam, Bob, Bram, Cliff, Cosmo, Frank, Landon, Paul, Seamus

any help is appreaciated. I have really loved names and really feel weird that I cannot seem to commit to one. I do want to wait till I actually see him but I am worried that he won't fit any of the three names that we both like and we can't think of a name.

Jack is a great name, not keen on Conan, don't really like Charlie or Charles. What about Chad. I prefer Ronan to Conan. Jake is a great name too

I like Adam, what about Callum, Liam, Tristram, Robert, Rupert, Frederick, Saul, Seth, Sean, Brandon, Lincoln, Corbin, Hayden, Jordan, Adrian, Calvin, Todd, Dean, Grant, Jared

I really like Ronan but my husband's name is Ryan and does not like "R" names and feels Ronan is too close to Ryan. Chad is his brother's name as well, so that is not an option. I Love Liam, Lincoln, Jordan, and Grant but they have been vetoed. I do like some other names, so I will bring it up to him. Thanks for your input!

Shame about Ronan and Chad and the other names, what about Jayden, Graham, Scott , Trent, Travis, Vaughn, Alex, Alec, Bryce, Hugo, Hugh, Brandon, Jason, Kurt, Kirk, Ned, Lewis, max, Shane, Sean, Brad, Nate, Zeke, miles, deke, Flynn, Dane, Kyle, beau, Frank, james, Ben, Floyd, lee, Lloyd, Josh, ed, Gabe, Harry, drew, Tom, Tim, Steve, Mick, Hal, Zac, ash, Sam, Mitch, Nick, Owen, Wyatt, Vince, oscar, Will. I wouldn't use another C name though

Andrew, Philip, Hamish, Arlo, Milo, Timothy, Lachlan, Declan, Henry "Hank" (or, more traditionally, John "Hank"), Fred(erick), Randall, William "Bill" or "Liam", Walter, Sean, Eliot, Richard "Rich", Casimir, Leonard

I feel like his taste is kind of all over the place!  Bob, Cliff, Frank, and Paul fit the old man/car salesman description, but Adam is younger (like born in the '80s or so), Bram is sort of an intellectual antique revival, Cosmo is very hip, Landon is modern, and Seamus's category in my mind is just Irish.

John "Jack" and Charles "Charlie" are wonderful names, but I'm not a fan of nicknames on their own.  Jack is better than Charlie in this regard.  Conan... eh.  It'll just blend into all the Cadens, Keenans, Ronans, Kodens, etc....

Andrew, Timothy, Henry, and Eliot are all taken in our family. I really like William but we named our dog Willow and that would be confusing. I sorta liked Leo or Leon but my husband cannot stand the name Leonard so it is out. I do love Milo and Declan but they have been vetoed as well. I will bring up some other names that you mentioned, finger's crossed.

And yes, his name is all of the place. He has "rules" to names like, "i don't want names that end in -n" but then loves Conan so that makes it hard to be on the same page.

Anyways, thank you for your input in general!!

Congratulations! I think you have some great choices. I like Jack, Conan, and Charlie, although I would probably go with John or Charles because I prefer more formal names on the birth certificate. Many parents obviously disagree with me, though! Have you thought about Cormac as a way of combining the snappy ending of Jack with the hard 'c' sound of Conan? I think Conan is fine and your son's peers won't have the associations of either the barbarian or O'Brien.

One of our few commonailities is that we like names that do not have nicknames and if they have a nickname that we like, then that will be their name but I understand that that is not everyone's cup o' tea. I do really like Cormac, so I will bring it up to him.

I don’t think you can go wrong with any of the three names you both like. Jack as a nickname for John seems to me to be from a bygone era (The Importance of Being Earnest comes to mind). I don’t think many young parents today are concerned with or even  aware of it being related to anything other than Jack, Jackson, Jaxon, etc. And I don’t hear any kids with those names being called Jackie so I think you’re ok on that front. Similarly, to me Conan fits into the Declan, Ronan, Rowan group of names that are currently quite popular and I don’t think he’ll be associated with either the Barbarian or the talk show host. Charlie is pretty classic, doesn’t really ever seem to go too far out of favour.

Hopefully the “right” name will be obvious when you meet him, but you could also consider which name has the best sibset options for future children to help narrow it down.

I really like Jack--if you are afraid of people using Jackie then maybe name him John and call him Jack for short.

REALLY like Conan

Love the Charlie but it is a little feminine and...gay? not that there's anything wrong about that and i still adore the name but i know some people prefer stringer names
