First name for Josephine’s little brother!!! HELP!

HELP! I’m due in a few weeks and have no name picked for our little boy. We actually call him “baby no name” right now. My husband and I have picked a family name for the middle name, Thomas but are still in search of the right first name. Our little girl is Josephine Anna Carey, we call her  Jojo or Josie. We would love an equally classic name for our boy with a few nice nickname options. Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions?

Are there names you love but can't use for some reason? Or names that one of you loves but the other has vetoed? Any other considerations? The more info you can give us, the more help we can be.

In the meantime, a lot of the historical top-twenty Western male names would probably fit the classic-with-nicknames criteria. A few off the top of my head:

  • William (Will, Liam, Bill)
  • Robert (Rob, Bobby, Dobbin, Hob)
  • Charles (Charlie, Chaz, Chuck)
  • Michael (Mike, Miko, Mick)

Christopher (Chris, Topher, Kit)

Are any of these heading in the right direction?

Hello and thanks for your help! You are definitely heading in the right direction so thank you! William and Charles were both favorites of my husband. A few others I considered were Alexander (Xander), Sebastian ( Seb or Bash), Theodore (Theo, Teddy).

My first thought was Theodore.  I don't love Theodore Thomas for the repeated Th-, but there are certainly worse pairings.  Other ideas: Maxwell, Oliver, Henry, Samuel, Benedict.

My first thought was Edward (Ed or Eddie, Ned or Ted). There's also Edmund which feels a little more similar to Josephine, to me.

How about Jude?  I like the idea of Jude Thomas, and I think Josephine and Jude are nice together.

A few thoughts I don't think I've seen mentioned:

Laurence: Laurie, Larry, Larkin, Lo

Oliver: Ollie

Francis: Frankie, Frank, Franz, Fritz

Leopold, Leonard, Leander, etc: Leo, Poldy, Len

Frederick: Freddie

August/Augustin(e): Gus, Auggie

Rufus: Ru? Fewer nickname options but I do think it's lovely with Josephine.

Harold: Hal, Harry

Slightly more out there, I love Llewellyn, but you might want some Welsh heritage for that.

And I agree with everyone else that Theodore seems like a good fit.
