Gingham girls

Does anyone else remember the Gingham Girls? They were a set of paper dolls that came out in the mid-1970s and featured four girls. So often while reading name lists on this site I had a mental image of little girls dressed in gingham, and tonight I suddenly realized why--I played with those dolls for countless hours when I was little. The girls were named Carrie, Katie, Becky, and Sarah. (Maybe this is why I named my daughter Sarah?! Egads!) For some reason I also associated the name Abigail with them (was there a Holly Hobbie doll named Abigail?). What toys do you associate with certain names?

I still have mine! :-) They were my favorite!

Sarah and Katie were my favorites. Hmmmm.... DD's middle name can nn to Katie.... I need to pull those out as I had others that I made and named. I can't remember them other than the magnetic Princess Diana doll I have.

I remember those, Katie was my favorite.

I always associate the Cabbage Patch Kids with the name Felicity because that was the first time I ever heard the name.

Felicity is American Girl for me... Ariana, Ardinia, and Brandi are Cabbage Patch Kids.

Ariana's associations are starting to fade, though, due to both Ariana Dumbledore, and its addition to my list of favorites.

Felicity always makes me think of American Girl dolls, too-- along with Kirsten, Molly and Kit. I had an Addy doll, but there are so many Addisons and Adelines now that it doesn't have the same nostalgic punch.

I had a paperdoll named Gretchen when I was a kid and I remember liking the name then, but it's not a favorite now. My grandmother also had dog named Gretchen, so that's another positive association of the name, but makes it seem less usable for a person.

I'm not familiar with the Gingham girls, but this post made me smile because I have sisters-in-law named Carrie, Katie and Abigail. Becky and Sarah are their cousins! Maybe their moms played with those paper dolls... Or maybe they just all share naming styles. :)

I personally don't associate toys with names, but I do remember when I had my third daughter and named her a variant spelling of Jade, my eldest daughter (who was five and a half years old at the time and obsessed with Bratz dolls) asked why I named her after one of her dolls!

I remember the Gingham Girls!  The only other toy/doll I remember that came pre-named was my Audrey doll.  Purchased becasue she had red hair similar to mine.  I still have her, but she's lost the overalls.
