Introduction & Thanks

Hello all! After mulling it over while reading these boards for years, consulting with you during my pregnancy, and then taking your good advice to check in with Swistle, too--plus having 42 full weeks to ponder our options!--I'm very happy to announce that Sil@s St@nton Last-name was born at the beginning of September. In addition to being healthy and beautiful, he's proven to be calm, curious, and a sweet mixture of observant and cheerful. We like him very much, and are pleased at how well his name seems to suit him.

Although I was worried about the rising popularity of Silas, I've been surprised at how many people have asked if we made up the name. (Including a librarian! I hung my head for plummeting literacy.) But that does suggest to me that it's not as popular as I feared. The people that do recognize it really love it and comment on its history, which makes me happy. Only a few people have figured out that his middle name is in honor of Elizabeth Cady Stanton, but I'm always thrilled when they do! We hope she ends up being an inspiring namesake for him. Even his grandparents, who we thought might not react as positively to it, seem to like his name (or are kind enough to keep quiet if they don't!)

Thanks so much to all of you for your help in making this huge decision! It was a great help.

Congratulations, Edith! I'm glad you were able to use your top choice, and that it's working out well for you! Enjoy Silas -- and my best wishes as you deal with the family medical situations I recall in the periphery of some of your naming posts, as well.
