Jasper, Eloise, and...

Hello,

I'm relatively new to this site, but I found it just in time, as we're expecting our 3rd child in mid-January. We've decided not to find out the gender, so I'd love suggestions for boy and girl names. Our other children are Eloise and Jasper, so we tend to prefer vintage names with a bit of spunk to them. A few names we like for boys:

Ambrose

Asa

Cyrus (Miley Cyrus association too much?)

Edmund

Ephraim (I love this one, but I don't know how people will pronounce it. I like the EF-rem pronunciation, so should I spell it Ephram?)

Ellis

Ezra

Everett

Felix

Hugo

Linus

Lucian (LOO-shin)

Miles

Milo

Oscar

Silas

A few we like for girls:

Agnes

Annabel

Audrey

Evelyn

Flora

Frances

Georgia

Hazel

June

Lola

Leona

Mae

Nora

Nola

Rosalind

Willa

Other names I love but can't use:

Emmett, Rosalie, and Alice (for obvious reasons)

Eleanor, Eleanora, Louise (too similar sounding to Eloise)

Charlotte, Franklin, Lucille, Violet, Molly (my nieces and nephew)

Ok, so that was more than a few, but I would love to hear any suggestions that are similar in style and go well with Jasper and Eloise. Thanks so much in advance!

From your list, my favorites is Edmund.  I also quite like Asa, Felix & Miles.

I don't think the Miley Cyrus association is too much for Cyrus.  It could work, I just don't like it as much as some of the others.

What do you think of Frederick, Rupert, Percy, Hugh, Alistair,

I'd probably eliminate Ellis as being too similar in sound to Eloise.  I'd guess Ef-rem first for Ephraim, but you'll likely get a mix of pronunciations for it.  However, I don't care for the altered spelling.

For girls, Agnes is my favorite.  I also like Flora, Hazel & Audrey.  I wonder if you'd like Agatha?  It's always been one of my favorites.  I'll also suggest Iris, Augusta, Cecily & Matilda.

I love your names! Ephraim in particular is a favorite--I think (realistically) lots of people will mispronounce it, just because people are people and there are several accepted pronunciations of the name, but I still prefer this spelling over Ephram. I also really like Asa and Silas. Not on your list, but names that I like a lot, are Levi and Asher (though, typing that, I just realized Jasper and Asher really don't work at all together). Willa is my favorite of your girl names. I really like Ruby and Matilda as well, both of which I think of as vintage/spunky.

You have great taste! No bad options here, but my favorites on your boy list are Felix and Milo.  For girls,  I love Flora and Willa with your set. Since you can't use Eleanora, would you consider Lenora? It would distance the name from Eloise, and still give you the nickname Nora, which is also on your list.

Your lists look great, there are some really exciting options on there.

From your boys list I like Edmund, Felix, Hugo, Lucian and Oscar. I think they can stand up to the spunk of Jasper while still having their own sound and feel.

From the girls list I like Audrey (love, but my husband won't allow!), Flora, Frances and Nola. I also like Agnes but it feels a bit hard next to the flow of Eloise.

Good luck! Please let us know what you decide.

For boys, my favorites are Cyrus, Edmund, Felix, Linus and Silas. Silas, in particular, is one of my personal favorites (had my daughter been a boy, she would have been Silas) and I quite like the cowboy-esque quality of Silas with Jasper. I get the same feeling with Cyrus (which makes sense; they're so similar). Felix and Linus with Jasper make me think "spunky" and Edmund with Jasper makes me think "handsome".

For girls, my favorites are Audrey, Leona & Rosalind. I think all three work well with Eloise (and Jasper). Audrey, in particular, is my favorite (its my niece's name). I don't know how important current popularity is to you, but Audrey was #41 for 2012. For a less common, similar sound, you could look at Audra (which wasn't in the top 1000).

And just in case you haven't thought to look, but think popularity could play a role in your decision:

Ambrose - not in the top 1000
Asa - #562
Cyrus - #471

Ezra - #184
Felix - #316
Hugo - #436
Linus - not in the top 1000
Lucian - #586
Miles - #111
Milo - #330
Oscar - #177
Silas - #161

Agnes - not in the top 1000
Annabel - #519 (however, the spelling Annabelle was #100 & Annabell is #985)
Audrey - #41
Evelyn - #27
Flora - not in the top 1000
Frances - #764
Georgia - #298
Hazel - #175
June - #435
Lola - #231
Leona - #914
Mae - #750 (the spelling May was not in the top 1000)
Nora - #107 (the spelling Norah was #210)
Nola - #802
