John Patrick???

I am due in June with a little boy.  We really love Biblical, classic names for boys. and just classic names in general...  John honors my hubby and his father and Patrick honors my grandfather, we plan to call him both names.  The other name we heavily considered in Luke, which I do still love.  I am wondering thoughts and opinions???  We have a little girl Caroline that will be very close in age to him (we also have other older children)....

John Patrick is a great name.  It honors family, it fits your style, and you like it.  Why keep looking?  However, if you are still looking, I offer you:

Matthew and Mark (the two gospels you haven't mentioned ;))

Paul, Jude, Silas, James, Peter, Joseph, Andrew, Phillip, Simon, Thaddeus, Barnabas, (I'm starting to stray from main-stream, I know, and I don't know how "out there" your tastes run.)

All that being offered, I like John Patrick, and if you love it, don't search any more!  You're one of the lucky ones!

I think John Patrick is very handsome. It would be refreshing to see John on a little one. I prefer it over Luke since it's less currently popular, and also because Luke Patrick is a bit harsh and choppy.

Thank you!!  Just noticed this!!!  Yes, while John is very used, I have not heard it on a little fellow in a very long time, so maybe that while to me, Luke fels "fresher" John is the more classic.....

Thank you!!!  I do love it, but I am wondering if Luke is the fresher, better choice? John has been so used, but I suppose for good reason. Or If I should do something

like: Luke John Patrick.....

I love all the names you mentioned :>) but I am down to these three ( Luke, John and Patrick)

If you prefer John then use John. Besides, Luke seems just as popular as John.

John was given to about 1000 more babies in the US in 2013 than Luke. That's not a significant difference, which means that for babies, the names are equally well-liked. However, there are a whole lot more adult Johns than Lukes out there. I can name three Johns offhand who we interact with at least weekly, but we only know one Luke (a child), and he's in the "interact a few times a year" category of acquaintance.

You could either wait to meet the boy, or let your surname be the deciding factor: if it's particularly common (Johnson, Davis, Anderson), then go with Luke, but if your surname is less frequently encountered (Vogler, Briggs, Smythe), use John Patrick.

That makes sense.  Our surname is Hispanic and not very common. My husbands name is an international variation of John, as is his fathers name.  I know two toddlers named John, but both go by middle names, and I t hink that is quite common with John... a lot are named after family and  go by another name. I know five baby or toddler Luke's :-)

I prefer John Patrick. The nn JP is also very cute. With a sister Caroline it's so very Kennedy :)

If you decide you like Luke better, I would use Lucas as the given name. I just think it flows better with Patrick.

I love both John Patrick and Luke, so in my opinion you cannot go wrong.  If you are set on Patrick as a middle name, then I would say John Patrick flows better than Luke Patrick, but not a big deal.  I would go with the one that you would be saddest not to use, which seems to be John.  You didn't share your other children's names... any reservations for either name given their names?

good point. Our other sons are named : Jonah, Levi and Isaiah. All biblical. Levi and Isaiah will be closer in age to this baby, Jonah is 19.  I have been told that both Jonah and John are close as are Levi and Luke. Neither of it really put me off much... Plus, we plan to call him John Patrick if that is what we go with. Patrick I have to use. So if we did go with Luke, he would have three names: Luke John Patrick... The three names do not bother me but it is not my favorite flow... Or we could even use John Patrick Luke...
