I think Matilda is a fine name. And if you or if she will be into nicknames, there's some options, Tillie (my fave), Mattie. I could even see Mat.

Almost any name could be a middle. Do you use your surname or your spouse's/partner's? You could use your last name or your first, middle, or a variation.

Or just something that may be special to you: literary, special place, etcetera.

Matilda's great.  Millie is my favorite nickname, but Tillie/Tilda/Tildie is nice too.  I don't really like Mattie, but that option would let her blend in with the Madisons and Madilyns if she ever wanted to.

Matilda Josephine

Matilda Lucy

Matilda Guinevere

Matilda Charlotte

Matilda Felicity

Matilda Gabrielle

Matilda Ruth

Matilda Bridget

Matilda Daphne

Matilda June

I think Matilda is a cute and Unique name :). My aunt actually used to call me Matilda when I was younger. My favorite nicknames for this name are Mattie and Millie. I think Millie is my favorite but i also like Mattie (though I am little bias because my friend's name is Mattalyn and we all call her Mattie.) Anyway for middle names there are a lot of options but here are a few. Matilda Rose, Matilda Louise, Matilda Nicole, Matilda Faith, Matilda Christine, Matilda Diane, Matilda Noelle, and a lot more options. You could always use a close family member's  name as a middle name. I actually know a few people who used their name as a middle name for their child as well.

Matilda is my daughter's name, so I'm biased. Her middle name is Jane and I've always loved the flow of Matilda Jane. Plus it's an honour name for us. Luckily she loves both her first and middle name, too!

There are plenty of lovely names that would work in the middle name spot, but it really depends on what other names you like and whether you want to honour a family member or not.

I love the name Matilda :) My favourite nickname by far for it is Tilly but it's nice that it has multiple intuitive nickname options so you/she can just see what fits as she grows up.

If there's nobody you want to honour with the middle name then I would say just pick another name that you like (this is what my parents did with five out of the six middle names my sisters and I have and it's never been an issue that there's no story to our middle names). Alternatively the fun thing about middles is that they are largely hidden so you can have a bit more freedom with them and use a name that you wouldn't use in the first spot, do you have any names that you liked but felt were a bit too outlandish for whatever reason?

I really like Matilda.  I do prefer when the middle name has some kind of meaning behind it.  If you don't have any honor names you want to use, perhaps some other source of inspiration?  Perhaps there is a name with a literary/historical/religious meaning that could work?  Place or nature names that remind you of someplace?  Virtue names? Names related to a hobby or particular interest? If you're having trouble coming up with stuff, you can reply with details about any of these ideas.  The regulars here are pretty good about coming up with suggestions.

If you decide to go with something based only on "flow" between first/middle, I think Matilda is one of those names that would work with just about anything.  What other names did you consider for the first name?  Is there a name one parent really liked that was vetoed by the other parent?

Hmm, I would love non-filler middle name. I like how Matilda Louise sounds, but I bet there are tons of Matilda Louise out there, since Louise is most common middle name.

I would like something mythological, unusually historical or unusually literary... e.g. Amoret, Bellicent or Gwenllian... But its not a must, only something that flows.

I don't see why you couldn't use any of those as a middle name.  I especially like the flow of Matilda Amoret.

You might want to take a look at behind the name .com.  They have sections for mythological names and names from literature.  You might find some inspiration there.  I'm sure others will chime in with some suggestions.
