Naming twin girls

I need some advice for a friend of mine who is having twin girls next month and needs help with naming them. She already has two children (boy) Toby (4) and Jack (2). Their surname is Winslet.

They want two middle names for each girl and they have a shortlist of 8 names:

Please feel free to comment what names you think work best with each other as a twin set

It's a lovely list; the only one I wouldn't use is Delilah, because the biblical character is just Not A Good Person.

The question is a bit unclear, though: are these 8 names what the full name (first plus two middles) of each girl is supposed to come from?

I always advocate for non-matching initials for twins, not only for the individuality aspect, but also as a way of nipping some bureaucratic mix-ups in the bud. So while Martha, Matilda, and Marion are all great, I recommend using only one of them in the first name spot.

I also wouldn't pair Hazel and Violet: the botanical-and-color thing just makes it too cutesy for my tastes. But a family with a long history of botanical names could carry it off, as long as it was done With Intent. They'd also be lovely as middles.

Some pairings: Martha and Beatrice; Matilda and Hazel; Clara and Marion; Matilda and Violet.

Considering the brothers' names, I'd go with Toby, Jack, Hazel, and Clara.  Just on its own merits, I prefer Matilda to Hazel.  It seems like a lot of names next to the boys' nicknames though.  ...Unless they're Tobias and John?  Then I would go with Tobias, John, Beatrice, and Matilda.

Thank you for the advice. Jack and Toby are their birth names and middle names are (Jack) Leo and (Toby) Lewis.

I think I like Clara and Matilda best for twin girls.  I'm curious, is there a reason why they want two middle names?  Finn and I have discussed giving this baby two middles if it's a girl because I have two myself, though nothing has been decided yet.

Clara Hazel Beatrice and Matilda Violet Delilah strike me.

Thank you for their input!

as for the middle names I can only guess. Their mother ( my best friend) has two middle names and so does every woman on her mother’s side so it might honour a family tradition but it could be Something else. Maybe too many names to choose from!!

Well, I also definitely understand too many names to choose from, at least for girl names.

To me, most of these names have a different feel to Toby and Jack - obviously they are girls' names as opposed to boys, but either they feel a lot frillier (Beatrice, Delilah, Violet) or much more formal (Martha, Marion). Toby and Jack strike me as more casual, fun names ... but it's not a huge problem. I think the best fit as sisters to Toby and Jack are Matilda and maybe Hazel or Clara.

To me Hazel and Violet or Beatrice and Matilda would go well with Toby and Jack.

From their list

Hazel Delilah Matilda

Violet Clara Beatrice

Beatrice Violet Clara

Matilda Hazel Marion

Other options

Hazel Grace Amelia

Violet Faith Beatrice

Beatrice Johanna Grace

Matilda Josephine Hope

I have given feedback to my friend and her and her DH have decided on Clara for one of the girls but are still not decided on the other girl.

What names would go best with Clara as a twin set and also any middle names from the original list.

This is a great list! I love Clara for one of the girls and my favorites to pair with that would be either Violet or Hazel. Martha and Delilah are not my personal taste so I would be inclined to use Marion, Matilda, or Beatrice as middle names.

I love Clara! Great choice. Violet sounds really nice with Clara - another soft, feminine name - but I don't think it sounds as nice with the surname. I also like Hazel and Marion. I don't think any of the names would sound strange with Toby and Jack.
