Since this is the dilemma section I couldn't resist

So some of you have already heard this dilemma.  My favorite girls name is Theresa with the nicknname Tess.  I have loved it for years and dh does as well.  She'd fit beautifully in with our other kids names -  Paul, Clare, Mark, Katharine (nn Kate) and James.  The dilemma is that our last name is Tys0n.  So is Theresa Tys0n terrific or terrible?  Are the repeatiing T-s sounds just to over the top.  Will she feel akward introducing herself to perspective employers as Theresa Tys0n?  Is it a name you'd want for yourself?

Our current number 2 is Stella.  Which also appeals to me but is far more popular and doesn't make me swoon the way Theresa does.

If it makes a difference, I think I'd pick a middle name like Lily, Molly, or Chloe.

We're not expecting yet - just hope to be soon.

I can't quite put my finger on it, but I'm not digging it. I think it's because the long "e" in Eve is too close in conjunction to the long "e" in Theresa (unless you are pronouncing it Teh-ray-sa?).

The long "e" on the end of a middle name is separated by that extra syllable, so I think it works better. With the long "e" in Theresa, and the long "i/y" in Tys0n, I personally would lean to a long "a" for the middle or even a long "o". Grace, Joy, Hope, Claire, Faith, Gail, Jane, Jade, Jo, Joan, Joyce, Mae/May, Maeve, Sloane, Sage, or Page would mostly work. Even a long "u" like True or Ruth (although those may be way too much with the "t"!).

Of course, if you're pronouncing it without the long "e", then it works better, although I still don't think Eve quite works.

I love: Theresa Jane, Theresa Maeve, Theresa, Grace, Theresa Ruth, and Theresa Joy

Thanks for the feedback - very helpful.  I think you make a good point.  Theresa Jane is definitely on the list and Theresa Ruth has been as well though I think dh prefers May or June as middle names.

I like Eve a lot, but unfortunately I find Theresa Eve kind of awkward to say -- for me it's the "a" ending of Theresa followed immediately by the "e" of Eve -- rather than flowing well one into the other, it feels and sounds more abrupt imo. On paper though, Theresa Eve is lovely, so if you decided to use it I wouldn't be disappointed!

If you've decided on a one-syllable mn, I think May/Mae or Grace are my favorites of the ones you've suggested in the past, and I like Theresa Faith too. If you were to reconsider a longer mn, I came across Caeli today and thought of you -- it's got the long "e" sound and a great meaning, consistent with other names you've considered, and I think it flows well with Theresa and Tyson. Two negatives: it looks like a Caylee/Kaylee variant, but in the middle spot I wouldn't think it would be too worrisome (and you can always spell it Coeli), and Theresa C. Tyson sounds very "s" heavy. But I thought I'd throw it out there anyway!

Thanks for the feedback on Eve.  I'm glad I didn't bring it up with dh since he doesn't like the name much anyway I only wanted to talk to him about it if I had good feedback on it.  Like you I think he's partial to May (or Mae) as a middle name though right now I don't think he wants us to use Theresa at all.  =(

I think Coeli or Caeli would be a great middle name if we were using Regina as a first name.  That would be cool combo unfortunately I don't like Regina nearly enough to use it as a first name.

i love the idea of Teresa/tess Tyson. i  think Mary would be a great middle name. Theresa or

Teresa Mary Tyson.

It would be fun if we had polls on these new forums.  So if anyone is interested I just tallied up the yays and nays.  I was surprised to see 16 in favor and 3 against.

Hi Laura! I am also not-pregnant-but-hoping-to-be-soon!

I personally think that Teresa Tyson or Tess Tyson is too much. I love Lily Tyson, though! And I think it goes better with your other kids' names. Plus, Lily Theresa is an adorable name!
