Spanish Virtue Names?

I have a very religious Spanish family, and I need help naming some cousins!

This family tends to use (perhaps a bit over-the-top) virtue names - think the likes of Patience, Temperance, and Prudence in English.

Here are some names I already have for them:

  • Gracia
  • Pacienca
  • Prudencia
  • Clemencia
  • Providencia
  • Modesto
  • Inocencio

Does anyone have any other suggestions, especially for boys' names? I basically only have Modesto and Inocencio, and every guy in the family probably shouldn't have the same name. ;)

Famously, there's Fidel :). I also knew a Fortunato; I don't know if that's quite the kind of virtue you're going for, though. There's also Benigno...Hopefully one of our users with more Spanish background will have more ideas!

José María (and María José for girls), Jesús, Guadalupe (if by "Spanish" you mean "Spanish speaking"; this name only really works for Mexicans), Epifanio (my dad went to school with a boy named this, but I've never heard of another one), Angel

For girls: Encarnación, Inmaculada, Remedios, Araceli, Consuelo, Concepción, Soledad, Rosario

I'm assuming that by religious you mean Christian (and there's always the name Cristián)...

I didn't know that about Guadalupe! So the Mexican association has completely outweighed the earlier Spanish usage to the point that it isn't used outside Mexico anymore?

In looking it up, I also learned the interesting fact that the name of the river in Spain is derived from Arabic.

For girls: Fe, Luz/Lucia, Angela/Angelia/Angelina/Angelita, Amor, Esperanza, Alma, Gloria, Graciela, Patricia, Pia, Sancia, Caridad, Justicia, Confianza, Tolerancia, Decencia

For boys: Angel/Angelo, Salvador, Amor, Sinceridad, Santos/Sancho, Santiago, Lucero/Luciano, Placido, Felix, Emanuel/Emmanuel, Purificacion, Caridad, Verdad, Cortes/Cortez, Fiel, Honesto, Valiente, Serenidad, Gratitud

Names that could work: Linda (beautiful or pretty), Paloma (dove), Alegria (happiness or joy), Manuel/Manny/Manolito, Rosario/Charo (Rosary), Prospero (Prosperous), Argenta (silver), Cruz (cross), Gabriel, Ignacio, Jesus, Manuela, Margarita (pearl), Naiara (of the Virgin Mary), Nieves (means snows, but given in honor of Our Lady of the Snows), Paz (Peace), Victoriana (victor, conquering), Vidal, Valentia, Sacrificio (sacrifice)

I apologise - some of the names have accents, but I can't type those. Hope this helps!

Purificación, Inmaculada, Asunción, Remedios for girls. Other than the ones already suggested, Bonifacio strikes me as a workable virtue name for boys (it's not exactly a virtue name, but men don't seem to get those the same). Liberto is another one. And maybe Salvador?

Alejo for a boy, it means defender.
