The Names List!

Well since I'm posting over here I guess I feel semi-safe enough revealing that I am pregnant again and just into the second trimester. Still tentative about everything, but it's time to start planning ahead.

For girls, my husband and I feel very happy about the two names I mentioned previously (and will probably go with the one we've been considering for longer).

After reading over everyone's responses to my request for suggestions of boys names, we've made the following shortlist:

George
Malcolm
Linus
Felix
Julian
Frederick
Everett
Louis
Nicholas (if he went by Colin)

I'm leaning most heavily toward George and Felix right now, my husband to George, Linus, and Malcolm. So we'll see! We've got lots of time to live with the names and see which one feels right. Thanks for all your help and suggestions!

Congratulations!! Hope all continues to be well.

It looks like you have a good list there.  My husband has had a quick look at my shortlists and has vetoed girl names he loved last time around and most of the boy names I like so it looks like I'm going to be doing some name searching too.

I really like most of the names on your list but Everett and Felix are probably my favourites!

Keep us updated on the name search :)

I like Everett a lot, too, but I worry it's a little too matchy with the troublesome last name. Felix I am falling more and more in love with every day, but my husband is ironically becoming increasingly committed to George.

This should be a lesson to everyone! Five years ago, before we were even trying to get pregnant, when I first suggested George as a name he absolutely refused to consider it. I guess the subsequent years of hearing me recommend things like Ferdinand and Ambrose wore him down to the point where George started to sound really good :)

I think Felix and Nicholas are great - but not sure where you got Colin from. It's not a nickname its a name on its own. But would also be a fine choice independent of the others.

Um, no, milkthistle, Colin (and Col) are traditional nicknames for Nicholas that go back hundreds of years. Now, some people these days use Colin as a formal given name, just as some people use Jack as a formal given name, but the fact is that Colin is a long-time nickname, just as Jack is.

You've got a lot of great names, several of which were also on my list at one point.  It makes it really hard to pick!

I want to encourage you to use George as it's the name we went with and I've been very happy with our decision, it fits him perfectly!  Even if I hadn't used it myself, I'd encourage it for you since it made the top choice list for you & your husband.

But I also want to encourage you to use my "names not taken" just so I can see them going to good use.  Frederick, Everett and Louis are all great.  I also had Colin on my list as a given name.

What do you think you'll do for middle names?  Are there family names you have in mind, or would you go with one a runner up?

Well, Colin was just a way to use Nicholas without risking Nick, which doesn't work with my husband's last name. But since my name begins with Coll and sounds quite similar to Colin, my husband thinks it's too repetitive. Nicholas is also way higher on the popularity lists than all our other choices--though funnily, I've met several little Dashiells in my neighborhood and no little Nicholases.

The middle name was going to be Harrison, a family name from my husband's side. But if we go with George, that's obviously out! In that case, I think we'd pick Arthur as the middle name, so the baby would be named after two great-grandfathers.

Felix Harrison LN is pretty awesome, though. Maybe we'll save that for a future potential boy.
