I totally agree with you, but just as nedibles was saying, it is a name she is choosing for herself. It does have to fit in the story, but I think with the amount of kids who choose their own names, and "odd" foreign names I have in the story, it wouldn't shake it up too much.
The background for her choosing the name is that she found out she might just not be 100% a girl. And her birth name (which I'm also still debating on a bit) isn't too gender neutral. Her changing name to other people happens when she goes from living confortable at home, with pretty regular people all around her, to this sort of organization, where there are kids from all over the world. She didn't have a regular name back then either, her mother is portuguese, her dad is french - she lives with her mother in Portugal and her name is french, and not a regular one. Both are atheists, but her mother is way more accepting of things like that than her dad, with whom she has a bit of a shallow relationship with, but she also doesn't share too much with her mother. Her parents arent artists but LOVE art in all forms btw
She doesn't exactly HATE her birth name, she's honestly mostly a sucker for trying new things.
I personally really like the name Juno, but a lot of people irl I've asked said nah hahah that's why I'm asking for more, as Juno is at least temporarily set aside.
I'll check it out! Thank you so much for the names!! And good luck with your story!
You're right, and I appreciate your advice.
She comes from an atheist family, who's pretty accepting so no big setbacks from there. No siblings, but her classmates do have common names.
I wanted her to have either a short name or a nickname, but since I usually can't find "that one nickname" it's a bit hard for me to choose, but I will look it it. Thanks!
Janus does sound really fitting actually! Thank you! I also thought about Juno (yes, I know it's the wide of Jupiter and all, but I really like the name but I'm not sure about this one), but oh boy Janus is such a good addition to the list! Thanks!
Alright, I'll be careful on what I let Tumblr slip into my ideologies, thanks! (I'm mostly there for the movies and series posts tbh)
I really like the name Jordan, but I was looking for a more "odd" name? I will take Jordan into account though, it's really nice
Hipster? Hahah thanks for the advice, I'll try and change some stuff so she doesn't fit as much into the stereotype
I was just talking about names, plus, my character will visit Denmark, but not many, many places, just what's important for the plot
No, what I meant was that I'm not familiar with today's Norway and Denmark, but I'm doing research on the viking age
The is VERY apreciated, very, very much! BTW, do you know any kind of app or program that let's you design your characters with details or something for free? Just to decide realy realy which of the many names you've given me should I name the boy? It's just that I not familiar with anything from Norway or Denmark, specially names... Thanks!
That's exactly what I want! Thanks! But, since you don't know anything about portuguese names, could ou tell me some english one, so that maybe I could sort of translate them to portuguese? BTW, I thought that the girl's friends could call her Di (spelled Dee - Diana is spelled Dee-Ana, with an "open" A) or Di-di or something like that. What do you think about it?
I was thinking naming the viking boy Arn, Leif, Eirik(I'll maybe pass this one because my dad's name is Eric, so...), or so. If you could give me any other sugestion, or if there's more description needed, just ask. (and thanks for the tip in "kind of cunning"! I didn't know that!)
Yeah, thanks for the names, but I'm portuguese, I live in Portugal, I study in a portuguese school and my mum's portuguese.... I'm just really having a hard time finding a suitable name for my characters.
First, I thought of Diana, because I really like that name, but everyone told me that, that name did NOT fit the girl AT ALL. And then, I thought of Maria or Ema, but these names don't mean anything to me...
The Viking boy lives in the year 814, but the girl lives in 2014, so the story envolves time travel.
Yes, timetravel happens in the story, because Thor teleports her. And do think "Bjornson" would be a better "last" name?
hi, thanks or the info about old norse last names, i didn't know, so maybe just bjornson or something like that. In fact, there is some timetravel in the story. The girl is teleported by Thor to the Viking period, year 814, or I might just change it in order to involve that with some kind of happening in Denmark/Norwegian history. By the way, she lives in the year 2014, just like you and me.
